Sterilisation

During the first months of your baby´s life, his immune system is still fragile.

It is therefore important to sterilise bottles and teats in order to prevent germs from developing, as they can cause digestive infections, diarrhoea and skin problems.

Sterilisation is a hygiene principle that you should maintain until your baby starts spoon-feeding (from the 5th month onwards). After this period, you no longer need to sterilise because your child will have developed his own immune defences.

Milk is conducive to the development of germs which can cause intestinal problems for baby. This is why it is essential to clean bottles and teats carefully as soon as feeding is over, since bacteria develop very quickly in milk. Wash the bottle, teat and accessories in warm water with washing up liquid, clean them with a bottlebrush, and rinse them well.
Once you have cleaned everything meticulously, you can begin to sterilise.

There are various methods of sterilisation, hot or cold, which are all equally effective.
You are advised never to leave a steriliser within the reach of children, particularly when it has just been used.

ELECTRICAL STERILISATION: SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE!

Average time: 15 – 20 minutes.
Simply pour the required volume of water into the steriliser, and then place the bottles and accessories in the rack before connecting to the mains.
Most sterilisers have a practical automatic stop function and, on the whole, sterilise 6 bottles plus accessories.

TIP:

Tigex recommends cleaning the heating element with a wet cloth once it has cooled, using 30 ml of water and vinegar in equal parts.

MICROWAVE STERILISATION: ULTRA-QUICK!

Average time: 8 minutes.
Popular with busy mums, microwave sterilisation works according to the same principle as electrical sterilisation: you pour water into the tank, and then place the bottles and accessories on the rack. You then close the steriliser and place it in the microwave.
Microwave sterilisation is extremely quick but it only lets you sterilise 3 bottles and accessories at a time.

TIPS:
When using a microwave steriliser, Tigex recommends using gloves and letting the device cool down for a few minutes before taking it out of the microwave oven.
A microwave steriliser must be used under normal operating conditions (500 to 1000 W microwaves).

STERILISATION BY BOILING: THE TRADITIONAL METHOD!

Average time: 25 minutes.
This is an effective sterilisation method as long as you observe the minimum boiling time.
Principle: place the 6 bottles and their accessories in the basket, place the basket in the tank, fill with water, close the lid and boil.

TIPS:

Always use your steriliser on a flat surface.
It is important to keep an eye on the appliance as it heats up, so that it doesn´t keep boiling for too long and overheat.

COLD STERILISATION: IDEAL FOR TRAVELLING!

Minimum time: 30 minutes.
This method does not involve steam; instead, it uses completely harmless sterilisation tablets that dissolve in water. This disinfectant solution has the advantage of remaining effective for 24 hours, therefore enabling you to keep the 6 bottles and their accessories germ-free throughout the day.

TIPS:

For cold sterilisation, Tigex recommends using super-concentrated odourless tablets (1 tablet for 6 litres of water).
It is advisable to rinse bottles and teats in boiled water before use.
